Coronavirus COVID-19

What You Need To Know

Coronavirus (COVID-19), which is now a global pandemic, is currently affecting millions of individuals in over 121 different countries throughout the world including the United States. The media is overflowing with information and it is important to be able to determine fact from fiction regarding this particular virus. First of all, the human coronavirus is nothing new. However, COVID-19 is basically a new strain of the virus which developed at a meat market in Wuhan, China in December 2019. As Dr. Oz puts it "a coronavirus married another virus and they had a baby, this is not a man made virus". Secondly, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only about 16% of cases result in severe symptoms. Also worth noting, is that over 70% of the infected people in China, since December, have recovered and been released. The elderly and those with severe underlying health conditions — like heart disease, lung disease and diabetes, for example — seem to be at higher risk of developing a more serious COVID-19 illness. Symptoms of the virus resemble the flu and include but are not limited to, fever, cough, shortness of breath and/or sore throat. Please call your doctor immediately if you experience any of these symptoms.

Homemade Hand Sanitizer

2 ounce spray bottle

5 drops vitamin E oil (optional, this makes for soft hands!)

3 tablespoons witch hazel with aloe vera, vodka, or 190 proof grain alcohol

5 drops lemon essential oil

5 drops orange essential oil

5 drops tea tree essential oil

Distilled (or at least filtered, boiled, and cooled) water

  1. In the spray bottle, combine the vitamin E oil, witch hazel, vodka or grain alcohol, and essential oils. Place the sprayer on tightly and shake well for 15-20 seconds to combine.
  2. Open the bottle, and fill to the top with water. Replace sprayer, and shake again for 15-20 seconds. Done!
  3. Print and stick the label to the bottle. If you don’t have label sheets kicking around, you can also print the label onto regular paper, and then use clear packing tape to adhere the label to the bottle by using the tape like lamination over the entire label.
  4. Spray liberally on your hands whenever you feel like they need a bit of a deep clean. Rub hands together until dry.
